The Bakewell Blanket
Hi everyone :) We have a new pattern to share with you - YAY :D
Lots of you will have seen this blanket in various stages of progress on Instgram or Facebook... but here we are, the final thing ready for you all to use. It's so exciting! The pattern is free, and you're very welcome to pass it on to anyone you think might enjoy it too. A massive thank you must go to all the lovely people who have tested the pattern and given invaluable feedback - thank you so much!
Now, having said this is the "final thing", if you have any problems when you're using the pattern, we would love to have your feedback, and if we see a common theme occurring in where people are getting stuck we will update the pattern.
This pattern came to life when we ordered some Scheepjes whirls (Laurelin of 'Snufflebean Yarn' is our go-to for whirls), and I couldn't find a pattern I really wanted to make... and if you've bought any whirls or other beautiful gradient yarn you'll know that it's sooo pretty you have to find something special to use it for, otherwise you decide it's best to keep it just to gaze at! So after faffing around for a bit, this happened:
And after some very kind feedback I started using this pattern with the Lavenderlicious whirl :) I didn't find it the easiest yarn to start with... if you're using it for the first time and you feel like throwing it out of the window, I get you! But keep going, I absolutely love the yarn now (I'm already plotting which one to buy next).
This is the first ever Bakewell Blanket in all it's lovely purple glory:
And once that was done, I immediately started on the next! This time with a Strawberries & Scream whirl:
Haven't quite finished this one yet, but it goes with me into central London most days and make an appearance on the District Line commute!!
As you can hopefully see from the first two pics, this pattern works just as well in a solid colour, and will work well in any weight of yarn - just follow the manufacturer's guide for which size hook to use and you're good to go :)
We really hope you will enjoy using this pattern - it's definitely been fun creating it!
Jen & Chlo
xx

What a lovely pattern ladies - thank you so much for designing and sharing it!
ReplyDeleteThat's an absolute pleasure. Hope you enjoy making it x
DeleteThank you ever so much. I am working on the Dragon Belly at the moment. Soon as I finish and new whirls arrive, I am going to get on this pattern! Yay!

DeleteThank you for this pattern - I've been waiting after seeing this on Instagram.... I still haven't typed up what I may with my whirls! Now to decide a solid mustard or another whirl (how big is it with a whirl?) Thank you again, Very kind, Vicki
ReplyDeleteThankyou so much. It works out about 70cm square with a whirl depending on your tension. Hope you have fun making it with whatever you choose Xx
DeleteWow, this looks magnificent. I have a few whirls to choose from. I think this could be modified to make a shawl?
ReplyDeleteI like the way you think.
ReplyDeleteHi thank you for thos pattern it is lovely. The only problem I had was at the start of the repeats. I had to work out where I was on the repeat in each row. Once I had done this I was fine. I have made a chart which made it easier for me as I am a visual person. If you would like me to send you it just let me know and I will email it 🙂
ReplyDeleteI would love thisbif possible as I am a visual person too and I am struggling! Xx

I found a visual chart made by someone on ravelry. This is not the author of the pattern but a different user found in her notes on the site. Try this link! https://www.ravelry.com/projects/p1013/the-bakewell-blanket/slideshow?fullscreen=1&start=88358208
DeleteIs there a visual of this pattern? I am not able to follow... thanks!
DeleteDo you still have the chart for the Bakewell Blanket? I seem to be like others who are stuck after row 9 with the repeats. Lol
DeleteCould you email it if you do? Thanks.
Hi! I know I'm a couple of b years late to the party but if you still have this chart I would love a copy. I followed a link to revelry on this thread but its a bit confusing please and thank you! Brisabb72@GMAIL
DeleteHi Hannah! I would really appreciate it if you could send me a copy of the chart for the Bakewell. This is my first and I usually find charts easier to follow for crochet patterns. Thank you! Diana.minard@yahoo.com
DeleteIs anyone able to help me out with the increases? I really wish they were included in the pattern ): my email is kourtneyduke2@gmail.com

DeleteNot sure if previous reply posted, is the diagram still available? Very difficult to figure pattern out after the repeat. Thanks!
Deleteamandaloyd0906@gmail.com
Any chance I could get that chart???
DeleteWas anyone able to get a chart or explanation on how to create the repeats after round nine... I am so confused but someone relieved I was not the only one having a hard time figuring it out... can anyone email me an explanation or chart? Is there further instructions posted somewhere? I looked but could not find any additions
DeleteWhat a beautiful pattern-and I really want to make it! I may just be missing it, but I don't see anything that tells how much yarn this blanket takes. I'm in the U.S. and would need to figure out what yarn and how many skeins needed. Thank you for this awesome pattern and in advance for your help!
ReplyDeleteThank you! So kind. I love it. With a little more of a practice i will give it a shot!
ReplyDeleteHi there. I love the look of this pattern, but I confess I am having trouble with round 9. Would it be possible for you to walk through that round for me and then I think I will have it down pat. Thanks so much for your help.
ReplyDeleteCheers
Joyce :)
I'm having the same trouble, does row 9 start mid repeat?? Very confused!
DeleteI’m struggling with the repeat also.
DeleteHi - if you’re still needing help with the pattern could you please contact us via one of the ways mentioned at the top of the pattern? Thank you!
DeleteI am not seeing who and how to contact with problems that you say "at the top of the pattern"? Can you please provide an email?
DeleteI have the same question..what weight yarn, how many yarns abd what size hook ??
ReplyDeleteHello, this pattern works with pretty much any type of yarn, I have used DK with a 4mm hook or sport weight with a 3.5mm hook, but just choose whatever hook the band on the yarn recommends x

ReplyDeleteI have just printed up this pattern and adore it!! However, I can find where it says how much yarn to use and what size needle?? Please help so that I may start on this beautiful creation!!
ReplyDeleteHi Lynda, it’s up to you really - the pattern works with any type of yarn and you can use whatever size hook is recommended on the yarn band. I have previously used 1 Scheepjes whirl with a 3.5 hook (makes a 75cm ish blanket) or 4 balls of DK with a 4mm hook, which made a slightly larger blanket. X
DeleteUnfortunately the creators of this blog don't seem to be replying to posts any longer! It's a shame. If I were you I'd find another pattern, you won't find the support needed via this blog!!
ReplyDeleteIf you need to contact them for support see below!
ReplyDeleteTry contacting them as they request then you might get an answer

ReplyDeleteThis pattern was not written very well at all. Row 9 is extremely confusing. It says to follow row 5 but how can you when the numbers are off. I don’t get it.
ReplyDeleteAfter many attempts I realised it row 4 I needed not 5!! Don't know if that helps? The pattern did carry on by using row 4..but then I missed a bobble stitch so I've undone it lol! But try with row 4 see if that works for you xx
DeleteIm.stuck on the same point the repeat of row 5 but as I'm counting I think you may need a repeat of row 4? For the bobble? I'm going to try that and see if it works! Xx
ReplyDeleteI need further help with this pattern... the bobble doesn’t look like a bobble and it’s not adding up with the stitches...
ReplyDeleteLovely design. Like so many lovely designs it is square. I prefer oblong. Is there a way to convert your square pattern to oblong and keep the flow of colors?

ReplyDeleteIt was very nice to learn.

I just now found this beautiful pattern! I so appreciate all the time and effort it takes to make up a pattern, AND share it freely! Thank you so very much! Stay well and safe!
ReplyDeleteWhere's the pattern for this Bakewell Blanket? I can't find it. It's on the Raverly site, but again no directions. How can you make a pattern, when you can't find the directions? Please advise. Thank you, Donna S
ReplyDeleteThe pattern is linked at the bottom of the blog post, and as you say it's also on Ravelry. There's a slightly different version on Ravelry too, which has the increases in the corner rather than in the middle of an edge.
DeleteCan I plz get edge pattern of this blanket
ReplyDeleteHello, if you're still looking for it, the bobble border instructions are there at the end of the pattern pdf
