The Bakewell Blanket

Hi everyone :) We have a new pattern to share with you - YAY :D

Lots of you will have seen this blanket in various stages of progress on Instgram or Facebook... but here we are, the final thing ready for you all to use. It's so exciting! The pattern is free, and you're very welcome to pass it on to anyone you think might enjoy it too. A massive thank you must go to all the lovely people who have tested the pattern and given invaluable feedback - thank you so much!

Now, having said this is the "final thing", if you have any problems when you're using the pattern, we would love to have your feedback, and if we see a common theme occurring in where people are getting stuck we will update the pattern.

This pattern came to life when we ordered some Scheepjes whirls (Laurelin of 'Snufflebean Yarn' is our go-to for whirls), and I couldn't find a pattern I really wanted to make... and if you've bought any whirls or other beautiful gradient yarn you'll know that it's sooo pretty you have to find something special to use it for, otherwise you decide it's best to keep it just to gaze at! So after faffing around for a bit, this happened:

And after some very kind feedback I started using this pattern with the Lavenderlicious whirl :) I didn't find it the easiest yarn to start with... if you're using it for the first time and you feel like throwing it out of the window, I get you! But keep going, I absolutely love the yarn now (I'm already plotting which one to buy next).

This is the first ever Bakewell Blanket in all it's lovely purple glory:

And once that was done, I immediately started on the next! This time with a Strawberries & Scream whirl:

Haven't quite finished this one yet, but it goes with me into central London most days and make an appearance on the District Line commute!!

As you can hopefully see from the first two pics, this pattern works just as well in a solid colour, and will work well in any weight of yarn - just follow the manufacturer's guide for which size hook to use and you're good to go :)

We really hope you will enjoy using this pattern - it's definitely been fun creating it!

Hello Everyone!

Hello Everyone!

Firstly we wanted to say a huge thank you for taking an interest in our crochet business. I don't think when we first picked up our hooks we thought anyone would be interested - except maybe our mum!

Here at Jollijenni & Chlola we are coming to the end of our first year as a business. Its been super busy and we just wish we had more time or more hands to be able to make all the things we want to.

So a little about us:

Chlo (right):
Chlo is a research scientist working in the big smoke and crocheting in every spare minute, whether that's on her commute on the tube, or when she gets back from work late, or just to chill out at the weekend. Chlo is a particular fan of making the biggest blankets ever or making things ridiculously quickly so to meet a deadline!
Chlo also runs a Crochet, Cake and Cocktails club after work once a month. And together we ran a beginners crochet class just earlier in March.

Jen (left):
Jen used to be a hospital pharmacist but since having her first child in March 2014 is having a break from that. She picked up her crochet hook out of boredom when her little boy was having naps, and after a day or two told Chlo to have a go! Really there is only so much daytime TV you can watch! Jen loves making smaller projects, having far too many makes on the go at once and having more yarn than she'll ever use!

This year has seen us make 25 blankets of all shapes and sizes, 4 cushions, 25 pompom hats and an assortment of other things: shawls, berets, garlands, bunting, Christmas puddings, baubles, dishcloths...

We designed our very first blanket too for the lovely girls at Cygnet Yarns to take to their stand at the Stitches 2017 show. It was made from their gorgeously soft Seriously Chunky yarn. There is a free pattern which will be available on their website shortly and also available on Love Crochet: https://www.lovecrochet.com/catalog/product/view/id/177537

We'd love you to give it a go, it can actually be made in any weight of yarn.

Mainly we make custom orders, very occasionally we make something just because and then that ends up in our tiny online shop: www.jollijenniandchlola.bigcartel.com

We love hearing from you - all your comments and likes on our instagram or facebook mean a lot! Please keep it up, its so encouraging :)

We are planing a lovely giveaway when we hit our 1 year birthday at the beginning of May with our super talented watercolour artist of a brother. Do watch out for it!
